Michael Orr has over nine years of archaeological experience. He obtained
a BA in Classical Archaeology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill. In addition to supervision of numerous Phase I archaeological surveys
for mining and cellular communications operations, he has participated in Phase
II evaluations in a variety of settings, and Phase III data recovery projects
of sites including a late prehistoric village, historic industrial complexes,
and an historic cemetery. He also has experience in assisting with architectural
investigations at the reconnaissance level. While much of his occupational
experience has been gained in West Virginia, Mr. Orr has supervised and taken
part in field work in Kentucky, Ohio, and Virginia. Early field experience
was gained overseas, where he participated in excavations at the Roman/Nabataean
settlement of Aila in Aqaba, Jordan, and the Roman Yasmina necropolis at Carthage,
Tunisia.
Mr. Orr has been an employee of CRAI since 1999. Since 2000, his duties have
included supervision of archaeological field work and authoring reports at
the Phase I level. He also assists in Phase II and Phase III archaeological
field work and reconnaissance level architectural surveys as needed. Currently,
Mr. Orr is responsible for Computer Aided Design and GIS work at the West Virginia
office; he is proficient with AutoCAD, and has extensive experience with ArcView
and MicroStation.
