Jennifer M. Haney has more than 10 years of archaeological field experience in the Midwest and Southeastern United States. She has completed a Masters degree in Anthropology with an emphasis on Prehistoric Cultures of the Eastern Woodlands. She has supervised field surveys, excavations, field laboratories, and company laboratories. She has extensive experience documenting and excavating prehistoric structures and villages. Jennifer’s research interests center on prehistoric pottery, textiles and weaving, and paleoethnobotany.
Many of these interests are reflected in hobbies outside of work which include making hand-built pottery (coil and slab) and attempting to replicate prehistoric firing techniques, spinning and knitting, and gardening. Recently, she has begun to make wheel thrown pottery at a local studio. While still a novice, her vessels are relatively small but their bright colors make them a nice change of pace from prehistoric replications.
For several years now, she has been accumulating yarn. Finally, she decided that something had to be done with all of this yarn. Continuing in a family tradition, she is learning to knit. Jennifer’s next project will be to learn the art of “two-ended” knitting in the old Scandinavian fashion.
Finally, Jennifer has a real love of plants and even has a green thumb with non-blooming varieties. The most demanding of these is her bonsai tree (a snow rose), which travels extensively during field work and has become a common sight for the excavation crews.
