Richard W. Butler has participated in archaeological investigations at prehistoric
and historic sites for approximately 22 years, with the majority of his work
experience being in the mid-Ohio Valley in West Virginia, Ohio, and Kentucky.
His interests include the study of technological systems, settlement patterns
and resource procurement strategies.
Mr. Butler holds an Applied Science Degree in Computer Technology and BA and
MA degrees in Sociology with Anthropological/Archaeological focus, from Marshall
University. Mr. Butler began employment with Cultural Resource Analysts, Inc.
in 1998, working on a temporary basis in the field and laboratory. In January
2004 he began full-time permanent employment with the company. As a field technician
he has participated in fieldwork at the phase I, II, and III levels of investigation
at a variety of site types including prehistoric open-air lithic scatters,
camps, hamlets, villages, and cemeteries, as well as upland rockshelters. He
has also worked at several different types of historic sites, including homesteads,
industrial sites, and cemeteries.
