Deer Hunting, Henry County, KY, 2001:

Our host was Dr. Edward G. Foree and our party included my buddy Grant
Day, Charlie Hinton and Don Ator from Baton Rouge, and Craig Eison from Denver. We killed
a few deer for the freezer but nothing remarkable. Due to a camera malfunction, I have
only one photograph to share. Charlie is standing next to one of Kentucky's famous tobacco
cured whitetails! |

I returned to Wyoming this fall to hunt with Milt Tope, Trophies Plus
Outfitters. Experiencing hot and very dry conditions, we hunted three days, saw at least
1,000 deer, of which about 100 to 125 were whitetail and mule deer bucks. With about 10
minutes until sundown on the final day of the hunt, we spotted a whitetail
"shooter" but he was due west of us. I couldn't find him with in my optics
facing a fierce setting sun. Waiting for sundown and a chance for a shot, the buck slipped
into some timber. When I did get my chance, it was about 15 minutes after sundown with
poor light and a 365 yard shot. I missed. Fortunately, the proprieter of the Stoneville
Saloon, Diane, was happy to help cheer up the unhappy hunter. If you ever find yourself in
that corner of the world where South Dakota, Wyoming and Montana converge, do yourself a
favor and visit Diane. As her advertising suggests, the Stoneville Saloon is
"conveniently located in the middle of nowhere" in Alzada, Montana, and is known
for its "Cheap Drinks and Lousy Food!" |
