Historic Materials Specialist
Jo Ann Wilson Huser has directed the laboratory at CRA's corporate headquarters since joining the company in 1997. Jo Ann's primary responsibility is to supervise the in-house laboratory staff of full and part-time employees as well as student interns. Her duties include all aspects of artifact processing, analysis and cataloguing, and daily maintenance of site records and curation. In addition, she is also responsible for specialized analysis of historic artifacts and the write-up of these analyses. Jo Ann has supervised the processing and curation of over 100 projects and performed specialized ceramic analysis on artifacts from five major mitigation projects (McConnell Station, Higbee Tavern, Monterey, Argosy Casino, and Clovelly). In addition to her experience with historic and prehistoric artifacts, Jo Ann has training and experience with human skeletal remains. This work has included analysis of prehistoric osteological material as well as identification of cemetery boundaries in the field through subsurface investigations.
Prior to joining CRA, Jo Ann worked on a number and variety of projects. She has field experience on survey, testing, and mitigation projects, working on a range of prehistoric and historic sites, and has served as both a field and in-house laboratory supervisor. Jo Ann attended field school through the University of Kentucky and investigated archaeological deposits at Shakertown at Pleasant Hill (historic) and the Croley-Evans Site (prehistoric). She received her bachelor's degree in anthropology from the University of Kentucky in 1995. During the course of her archaeological career, Jo Ann has presented papers at regional conferences and has co-authored four publications.
