Shane G. Pickett has over 10 years of archaeological experience. He holds both a B.S. in Biology and a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of South Alabama. He graduated in 2008 with a master's degree in anthropology from the University of West Florida, with emphasis in Maritime archaeology and artifact conservation. Shane has worked in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Most recently he gained experience in Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, and Wisconsin. Fieldwork includes urban monitoring projects, a multitude of phase I archaeological surveys, phase II archaeological testing projects (including Late Archaic, Early Woodland, Middle Woodland, and Proto-historic sites), and phase III data recoveries/research excavations (including Middle and Late Woodland sites as well as Historic sites from late sixteenth to early twentieth century sites). He also participated in the restoration of vandalized and storm damaged historic cemetery headstones in Pensacola, Florida. His main areas of interest are large scale concepts and artifact conservation.
Shane has been an employed as an Archaeological Field Supervisor for CRA since 2011. Prior to this time, he has served as a Project Archaeologist and Historic Specialist in Iowa and Head Field Conservator for the 2007 Elmina Shipwreck Project in Ghana, Africa. While working in the Midwest he studied geomorphology for archaeological application. He has author over 30 technical compliance reports for state, federal, and private sector clients.
Outside of the office, Shane enjoys spending time with his family and enjoying outdoor activities such as riding single track trails, camping, and hiking. He is an avid aquanaut spending time above and below the water. Shane also loves non-traditional sports and played club level Rugby while in college.
