The lake is located along the borders of Ross and Highland counties, Ohio. The HPMP was prepared pursuant to ER 1130-2-438, Historic Preservation Program, dated October 26, 1987. Major goals of the HPMP included: 1) providing an overview for the history of archaeological research at Paint Creek Lake, 2) providing descriptions of recorded sites, 3) providing information for the location of curated collections, 4) identifying processes of site disturbance and the potential to different impact zones to impact archaeological sites, 5) provide preliminary assessments of National Register eligibility for known sites and identify archaeologically sensitive landforms, and 6) identify management priorities and provide recommendations.
