Project Name: WPAY-FM Radio Station Transmitter Tower
Location: Greenup County, Kentucky

Client: Assessco, Inc.
Dates: May 2005

Project Description: CRA completed a phase I archaeological assessment of the proposed WPAY-FM radio station transmitter tower site in Greenup County, Kentucky. The project area was located along an upland ridge 3.2 km (2 mi) east of Firebrick, Kentucky. Archaeological investigations were conducted for a proposed 371.9 m (1,220 ft) radio transmission tower, associated guyed lines and anchors, and a utility easement. Field methods used consisted of pedestrian survey and screened shovel tests. The survey resulted in the identification of one previously unrecorded historic archaeological site (15Gp320), a twentieth century residence that yielded a small amount of artifacts consisting of ironstone, stoneware and whiteware ceramics, container glass, wire nails, and personal items. Site 15Gp320 was not considered eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places, and no further work is recommended for the site. Because no archaeological sites listed in or eligible for the National Register of Historic Places will be affected by the proposed construction activities, and archaeological clearance was recommended for the project.
