Project Description: CRA completed a phase I cultural resource assessment of the proposed Barkley Regional Airport expansion in Paducah, McCracken County, Kentucky. The project area consisted of approximately 72 acres (29 ha) of agricultural land and two one-acre (0.40 ha) home/house sites, all of which were surveyed. Before entering the field, all available surveys, reports, and other data pertinent to the project area were identified and reviewed. This task began with an investigation of the records of the State Historic Preservation Officer at the Indiana Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology. These records revealed that one property located in the area of potential effect had been identified in the Elkhart County Interim Report county survey. The National Register eligibility of this site was reevaluated. Following the preliminary archival research, CRA assessed all previously surveyed properties within the area of potential effect for historic significance. During the field survey, two previously identified sites were documented. Neither of these sites appears eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places. Thus, the proposed project will have a no historic properties effected determination.
